Avian Influenza Prevention Zone (AIPZ)
Great Britain is in an avian influenza prevention zone. You must follow strict biosecurity rules:
- Keep ducks and geese separate from other birds
- Prevent contact with wild birds and rodents
- Clean housing, equipment, vehicles, and footwear
- Keep records of bird movements, deaths, and eggs
- Additional rules if you keep more than 500 birds or game birds
Rules in Disease Control Zones
If bird flu is suspected or confirmed, control zones may be put in place:
- 3km protection zone and 10km surveillance zone
- 3km captive bird (monitoring) controlled zone
- 1km restricted zone for low pathogenic bird flu
Follow all biosecurity rules and keep proper records. You may require licences for moving birds or eggs.
Consequences
Not following rules puts birds at risk and may lead to fines or imprisonment.
